Week 13
My tenth full week of student teaching is officially over! It is a bittersweet day. My CE and I explained this to the students and they got very upset unfortunately. I'm going to rate this week at a 5 because I signed an early contract with my school system today!
Observe
What a week it has been! This week my students presented a diversity project to the rest of the class so we could all learn about our differences and they did very well. I was glad we got to learn a little more about one another.
Reflect
I learned that while doing a hands-on experiment is intriguing to the students, I need to have every management procedure planned and thought out so nothing gets hectic.
Focus
My goals are aligned by gaining confidence in what I'm doing. It feels great to know that my students love and appreciate me. Also, knowing that the county wants me to be a teacher with them makes me feel great!
Be Productive
I could have spent a whole lot of more time studying for my general curriculum math test for tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Have Courage
Indecision impacted me during lessons because I wasn't sure how to handle my time with not having any specials this week. I thought I had more time to get things done, like the diversity project and planting seeds, but I did not have as much time as I thought I did.
Begin Anew
Next week I'm going to plug in my data from my 10 weeks of student teaching!
This week report cards went home, so we tested all the students to find their new reading levels and they are doing great! I moved some intervention groups based on this and some center groups as well.
Other student teachers: Be confident in what you do! We've had a great education and are further along than others!

1a I demonstrated leadership this week by helping save a student's life! This student had a severe allergic reaction. I caught the reaction, and my CE took the student to the office where an ambulance was called and an epipen shot was given because their throat started to close up. The parents thanked us for helping the student. I'm so thankful to have caught it before it was too late!
2a I had a heart to heart with two of my students that have been having a difficult week. I talked with one student for about 10 minutes while the others were on the computers and it really made a difference in the way they acted the rest of the week.
3c I integrated writing, global awareness/diversity, and speaking all in one to learn about one another!
4e The technology specialist came into my classroom to help teach the students about this app called ShadowPuppet. I learned about the app and collaborated with the specialist to make up a plan for that hour
5c I have adapted the way I teach throughout this experience by keeping to a schedule, but changing up the way I teach the lessons to get the students more engaged. Based on their scores, they have been learning well!
I have completed a review of my resume. No questions at this time.
Thank you and have a wonderful week!
This is a series of blogs following my progress from the week or months before. These are my thoughts and hopefully the right way in the direction I am headed.

Student Teaching
Week 12
I am going to rate my week at a 4. It was a pretty great week and my students are showing progress with their test scores and their behaviors. But, being a full time student and practically working a full time job without a break is exhausting.
Observe
This week, one of the students I have been working with started getting her work done and stayed on task for most of this week.
Reflect
I noticed that with all of the things going on, it is hard to sit down at home and just read through articles of research for education. Now that I have a little more time to research, I will be spending my time for next week doing so.
Focus
My goals are aligned in gaining confidence as a new teaching by getting to see my student's test scores progressing, which makes me feel great that they're growing
Be Productive
I could have spent more time researching, which I now will be doing more of. I like learning new things that can be done in the classroom.
Have Courage
Apprehension really affected me this week. I was so tired that I procrastinated doing my lessons and had to stay up all night for two nights working on them.
Begin Anew
Next week, the first steps I will be taking is plugging in my findings into lessons and my portfolio. I will be working a lot on my portfolio from now on since I have most of my data
This week I found this awesome app called ChatterKid. This app allows students to take a picture of something, draw a mouth on that picture, and record themselves reading. The recording then looks like the picture is talking with their voice. We did this with persuasive writing and the students loved it!
To other student teachers: it has been easy to procrastinate in semesters before, but this semester is not one of those times. Keep on keeping on!
NCTCS
1a I showed leadership by collecting data on the students' tests
2b I sent home a paper on family heritage for my students to complete with their families and send back to school so that we can learn more about one another and how diverse we all are
3c I have been integrating science a lot with my intervention groups so they can learn about nonliving and living things through reading and writing
4e I integrated a lot of technology in my classroom with my students, especially with ChatterKid.
5c I adapted a lot of my math plans this week. I had seen that students were not understanding the lesson I had written out for them, so I changed up how I would teach it to them. When I tested them on Friday I got to see that by changing it up, they understood the concept a whole lot more.
I have most of the data for my portfolio, I just have to plug it in
No support is needed at this time.

Student Teaching
Week 11
I will rate this week at a 5. Everything went well for the week and the students were great. The only setback was me breaking a bone in my foot but I'll be okay!
Observe
This week I was able to do a STEAM activity with St. Patrick's day. It was fun for my students to create traps and work together as a team. This really helped students work on their team building skills.
Reflect
This week I learned from my experiences that lessons won't always go as planned, but it's good to go with the flow of student's learning and not worry about something being scripted out because that's not how teaching works. You have to do what's best for your students and their learning, not a strict procedure to follow.
Focus
My goals are still aligned by me feeling more confident in teaching. I have had lots of praise and constructive criticism that is making me feel better about not being perfect.
Be Productive
I could have spent more time researching educational articles and less time worrying about keeping to a perfect schedule, because in education things aren't always going to go as planned.
Have Courage
I was impacted this week by not paying as much attention to my artifact box as I should have. While I am still working on this and perfecting it, I know I could have spent more time with it.
Begin Anew
My first logical steps for next week would be to organize my NCTCS artifacts box
This week I analyzed math data with counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. I realized some of my students don't understand that counting by 5's and 10's is different.
Student Teachers: Keep up your hard work! The semester is almost over and soon we'll be doing what we love!
NCTCS
1e I demonstrated high ethical standards by coming to school early, dressing professionally, and showing professionalism through conversations with the school's staff.
2d I have adapted the flow of my lessons to make sure the needs of all students are met. The students with special needs were pulled to the side for testing and I personally helped them through each problem while asking them invigorating questions to get the correct answer.
3c I have integrated multiple content areas this week with science and global awareness.
4c I was able to use multiple manipulative in math to help students figure out the ones, tens, and hundreds place value
5a I analyzed a lot of math data this week so I am able to clear up any misconceptions for the next week.
I have started to complete my global awareness, resume, and classroom website
No support is needed at the moment.
Thank you and have a great week!

Student Teaching
Week 10
I would rate this week at a 5. It was great to have a short week so I could work on things for students teaching and be more relaxed.
Observe
This week was my first ever parent teacher conferences. While not many parents showed up unfortunately, I did learn a lot about talking to parents and trying to be on their level.
Reflect
Next week the main thing I'm going to be building upon is my PDP and NCTCS artifact box. I have been behind in this when I didn't even realize I had been behind, so it's all about catch up at this point.
Focus
I am slowly still gaining my confidence as a teacher. The more feedback I get from teachers the better I feel about being a good teacher. I know that it takes time and practice to do what I'm trying to accomplish, so having encouraging words from teachers in my school is really helping me not be down on myself for not being perfect.
Be Productive
I could have spent more time doing research on ways to help my classroom management and less time worrying about graduation.
Have Courage
I was affected this week by focusing so much on edTPA that I completely forgot my responsibilities over the past weekend. Now that it's over, I can focus more on my growth and my student's growth.
Begin Anew
My first logical steps for next week are to collect more artifacts from my students. I can clear my mind of edTPA now and focus on being a good teacher.
I analyzed my data from intervention block and realized that some students need more of a push, while other students need more practice on the skill they have been learning
Collect your artifacts!
NCTCS
1d I was able to advocate for my students to their guardians so they can get help at home so they can progress in their studies.
2c By talking with their guardians one by one, I was able to talk about the student as an individual
3d I have been working on the relevance with my lessons to the students' lives. For example, for read across America week I played Dr. Seuss books that were rapped. The students really enjoyed this because it related to the music they listen to outside of school
4e I was able to let students record themselves while reading so they could watch themselves read and improve on their fluency and expression while reading
5a I have reflected on data by changing reading levels and books I expect students to be able to read.
No support is needed at this time.
