Student Teaching

Week 7

I would rate this week at a 4. While this week has gone well for the most part in my classroom and school community, I am beyond exhausted.
Observe
I have noticed two of my students that I have had the most problems with in the classroom have really grown and shown a lot of progress. One of the students started doing really well when I gave this student more compliments and more hugs. I was surprised by the difference a few good words here and there mean to a child.
Reflect
Next week I will build more on my modeling techniques. I will make sure students are not just copying what I do but thinking through it for themselves while I ask them questions of understanding.
Focus
I have been quite tired, so I have not paid as much attention to gaining my confidence. I have noticed that my students are growing in their subject areas and I understand more of where I need to focus on working with my students.
Be Productive
I could have spent more time on edTPA and less time worrying! I have come to the point that every time I take a break I feel awful for not working 24/7. I realize I shouldn't feel this way, but it's been consistent for 5 weeks now. I don't know why I feel like I don't deserve any rest! There's just so much to be done.
Have Courage
I was affected this week by doubting myself. With edTPA looming over us, I felt as if I was drowning, and this affected me starting on my work. I worried more than I did anything else this past week.
Begin Anew
First, I need rest. Then, I need to finalize my edTPA.
I analyzed a lot of our reader's workshop data to make sure that students were understanding what I am teaching. They are moving along well!
I would tell another student teacher not to worry as much, but I don't know how to do that myself! Just know that everything works out the way it's meant to.
NCTCS
1b I demonstrated leadership in the school by partaking in science night and helping a wide variety of students learn how to code mouse bots and codepillars.
2a I showed students that I cared about them personally. My students have opened up to me after I have shown them that I care for their success.
3c I was able to integrate social studies into many of my lessons for the week.
4g I have worked with groups and have helped out with many conflicts arising by asking students what they can do differently and how they can solve the problem on their own without telling me about every little inconvenience that happens
5a I have been analyzing date from my student's tests and even changed reading partners and center groups based on their MOY test scores
I have been collecting artifacts and volunteering where I can, such as science night and reading a chapter from a book for the entire school to watch.
No additional support or questions. Thank you!

  1. Hey Brittany! I also have been very worried about the edTPA stuff. I do not feel as confident in them as I had hoped I would. I am reviewing over mine as well to make sure I have covered everything. I know we will do great, we just have to take a breathe and do the best we can. That is all we can do! I know you will do a great job! Your students are lucky to have you. I also have been volunteering and trying to take part in more leadership opportunities in the school. I hope you have a great week this week!

  2. Everything does always work out - one way or the other! I am glad you are being intentional to rest so you can begin anew each week! Hang in there!
