Happy Halloween Everyone!

I cannot believe this semester is almost over! Where has the time gone? I am ecstatic for my student teaching experience next semester, it is almost here! This has been a busy month. I have become more acclimated into the classroom and have gained more respect with my students and school staff. This month I have taught a few lessons and am now going to be teaching a lesson every time I go into my clinical so I can be fully ready for student teaching. I am now doing lunch bunch, meaning I have all third grade students that did not meet their behavior goal for a silent 40 minute lunch. I will admit, this was quite challenging at first. I was struggling because I did not know the student's names to call on and keeping students quiet with nothing to do but eat becomes hard. Every week I have made substantial progress to the point I am at now, which is where I can start rewarding students for new behavior.

I have learned so much in edTPA this semester. I am actually impressed with how much I am able to write in the short amount of time allowed. I am thankful for the fact that we have had practice writing edTPA before the real thing, and especially grateful for being able to write our task 1 this semester. I have learned that I need to do a different type of lesson rather than reading. I will probably do a writing lesson so I am able to show more graphs, give more feedback to students, and have more student interactions in my videos. I have also learned more about Piaget's theory and Vygotsky's theory in the classroom so I am not only able to use this for my edTPA justifications, but also for techniques I will use in my classroom. I will use Piaget's theory by using the chart below. I will use Vygotsky's theory by scaffolding student's knowledge and using their cultural background to teach my lessons.

I have demonstrated leadership by watching the class without the teacher present, I am in charge of lunch bunch, I have given many tests and quizzes, and I have lead in lessons. I have established a respectful environment for a diverse population of students by getting to know my students interests and knowledge to use in teaching my lessons so students are able to relate to the lesson. I know the content I teach, and I have shown this by being prepared for all types of questions. I have helped students in math, ELA, writing, reading, social studies, and math. I have reflected on my practice by reviewing my teaching videos and talking to my CE about what I did well and what I can improve on.

Thank you for reading my blog and enjoy your November!!!

  1. Hey Brittany!! Happy Halloween!!! I also can not believe the semester is almost over. I have also enjoyed doing the edTPA experience this semester. I have also planned to do another edTPA learning segment this semester just to get more practice and feedback before student teaching begins. I think it is great you have been able to have more time with the students. I also think it is neat you have been able to give test and quizzes to the students. I noticed you said you are incorporating the students interest into your lessons. I have been able to do this as well in my clinical placement and have seen the difference it makes in the students engagement and excitement for the lesson being taught. I wish you all the best for the remainder of the semester and your future endeavors as a teacher!

  4. I have to say I agree with Paula you are very creative with your blog. I have learned with teaching it is a learning process. You will do just fine with student teaching you just have to believe in yourself. Great post!

I really enjoyed reading your blog! You are one semester ahead of me, so I love being able to hear about your experiences in your courses and in your clinicals. You seem to really be enjoying clinicals so far which is good to hear. I cant wait to know more! Great job.

  6. Brittany,
It is so great that your EdTPA light bulb is beginning to light up and you are understanding it more and more! I am beginning to feel that way as well! I am sure you will be great with student teaching. We are well prepared and we have worked so hard to get to this point! All the hard work will pay off.

  7. Good "theory" finds to help your classroom be a better place (and will help with edTPA).
