Week 6

This week we are starting lesson (learning) plans. For me this seems a bit difficult. I feel as if we should be farther along in our program to start this. I am very worried about making mistakes on these. Also I know when we put these in an actual classroom, time management in the classroom is very new to us. How will we know if the students need more or less time on an assignment?
Sometimes I feel as if I'm not ready. I know it will be awhile until we are fully responsible for a classroom, but the stress of it all is overwhelming.
Big news, I can not work during student teaching my last year of college. This is a bit difficult for me. This means I will have to train someone to take over my position at Thomas Jefferson and take time off from Chick Fil A. Hopefully all goes well.
We are learning all the different theologies on how we can and will teach. I hope to figure this out, but when I have a little more experience teaching. The one thing I want to keep from all of this is my compassionate side and kindness. I'm going to learn how to incorporate this in a classroom without being seen as a pushover by reading of other teacher's experiences with kindness and "being too nice".

  1. Brittany,

Please know we are there to help you with the development of your learning plan! Don't feel as though you have to make it start to finish on your own. We are happy to help anytime! Learning how to gauge your students need to review or move on will come with time and we have a class (EDUC 410) which should help you a lot with this!

As for working with student teaching, remember the conversation you and I had at the end of class. We will work with you as much as we can.

  2. Brittany, All of this can be very stressful. But just remember why you started this program, you had a dream of becoming a teacher. This stress is simply an obstacle on the way to that goal. Hope you become less stressed because I truly believe we are being challenged only so we become that more successful in our careers.

  3. Brittany,

You are doing a great job. If I think about what kind of teacher I would want to teach my children, I want to have one who take cares and worries about how to do this special and important duty. The learning plan is a part of our future job and we have to do it, but the very first time you will know exactly what you have to do will be when you really have the opportunity to be in front of a class and put in practice all you prepare for this class. From this moment, everything will go day by day and before you can know it, it will be easier and you will be preparing as you are doing that all your life!

Good luck in your career !
